Reading for Pleasure
What an amazing year in reading we have had so far! Promoting reading from Reception to Year 6 has been a top priority.
From launching reading assemblies and reading passports to creating inviting book corners in our classrooms, we have all worked hard to show that Hollydale is a school that loves reading!
We’re not done yet! We would still like to make this our best year of reading ever.
Are you the most adventurous reading family in the school? Do you drop everything and read? Take a photograph of the most unusual place you have stopped to read to be displayed on our reading hall of fame. The most adventurous reading photo will be made into a photo canvas to be displayed in the school!
To continue to make reading an adventure, in autumn we launched our reading passports for KS2. The children have a whole half term to read ten books. If they complete this challenge, they have the chance to visit a local bookshop to purchase a book of their choice. Names of all participants are put into a hat and two winners are selected per class each term.
Do you have a little spare time? Would you like to come and support our children to become better readers? We are looking for a group of volunteers to come into school and read with the children on a regular basis. If you have half an hour to spare and would like to hear some children read, please speak to your child’s class teacher or a senior member of staff.
